Low dietary intake in rural and urban India
The average consumption of energy per person per day in rural and urban India is lower than the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of 2,320 kilocalorie.
People in rural areas consume 2,233 kcal, while those in urban areas intake 2,206 kcal, according to data presented in the Rajya Sabha by Smriti Irani, minister of women and child development.
Claims of forest dwellers
State governments have been issued advisories to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, according to a statement by the tribal ministry in the Rajya Sabha.
It also asked state governments to follow the rules of the act while processing the claim of forest dwellers and to ensure that no eligible claim is rejected.
MSP for tribals
The government has ensured to give tribals maximum benefits of the minimum support price (MSP) on their forest produce, according to the tribal ministry.
Schemes like ‘mechanism for marketing of minor forest produce (MFP) through MSP and development of value chain for MFP’ have been formulated to ensure that MFP gatherers, who mostly belong to scheduled tribes, get fair monetary returns for their efforts.
Broadband readiness
Under the National Digital Communication Policy (NDCP) 2018, the government has envisaged to launch the broadband readiness index report of states and Union territories annually, Ravi Shankar Prasad, minister of electronics and information technology informed.
