This was the second earthquake in Indonesia in a week
Credit: USGS A 6.9-magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia's Lombok island today at around 5:16 PM local time. The epicentre of the earthquake, which struck at the depth of 31 kilometres (19 miles), was near Loloan on the northern end of Lombok island.
According to latest media reports, at least 91 people were killed and more than 200 severely injured.
Strong aftershocks ranging from 5.4- to 4.3-magnitude followed the main quake, according to the United States Geological Survey.

This was the second such tremor in Lombok in a week after a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit the island on July 29, which killed over a dozen people.
The Indonesian archipelago, where Lombok and Bali are located, is a part of the Pacific Ring of Fire—an area of intense seismic and volcanic activity.
