Credit: author At an ongoing session on health concerns of member countries of the South-East Asia Region, the CEO of NITI Aayog, Amitabh Kant said that Ayushman Bharat will "change the health indicators across the world."
The 71st Session of the Regional Committee of WHO South-East Asia Region had health ministers and senior officials of the 11 member countries of WHO South-East Asia Region gather together in Delhi to discuss priority health issues in the region.
Starting today, the delegates will reflect on achievements and challenges that the region is facing and learn from each other. On the agenda for the five day session are crucial issues facing the region such as efforts to malaria elimination, increasing threat of dengue, work force shortage, ensuring the health of newborns, children and mothers, systems to increase access to medicines and evaluating the progress towards meeting universal health coverage under the Sustainable Development Goals.
The session comes at a crucial time when the world is trying to meet the target of “health for all” set at Alma Ata 40 years back. "We will chart the path forward through consensus," said Poonam Khetrapal Singh, WHO's regional director at the inauguration. “We need allies in the government, private sector and the civil society,” she added.
India's representatives included JP Nadda, the Union minister for health and family welfare, health secretary Preeti Sudan and Kant.
