This recently developed website from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) promotes the UNEP's programme of partnership and cooperation in preserving the environment. The programme seeks to bring together all specialized scientific institutions and communities under one umbrella to begin a new process of developing integrated solutions to environmental problems. This site brings together a lot of information and data on environmental issues and at the same time facilitates their exchange through the Internet.

The completely decentralized system of the website provides access to remote databases and servers that are constantly updated and are generally available free of charge. The site also offers downloadable tools and softwares for specialized applications. It is divided into five thematic portals: Climate change; Freshwater; Global Environmental Outlook Data; Mountains; and Socioeconomic. Presently, it has three regional portals (the Arctic, Europe and Latin America) but more will be added soon.

This website is of great value for environmentalists and scientists and also for the general public who are aware of environmental issues. It offers a complete guide on in what way human actions impact the environment and lays out the best path to take, outlining the current and future environmental challenges that the globe faces.
