Cell power

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has achieved a breakthrough in power generation by successfully developing fuel cell technology. The technology enables power generation through electro-chemical devices called 'phosphoric acid fuel cells'. These cells produce electricity efficiently and noiselessly, and without causing pollution. They convert fuels such as hydrogen, natural gas or coal gas directly into electricity without any intermediate thermal engine. The only waste generated in this process is water, in the form of steam at 180C. Another advantage of a fuel cell is its modular shape, which significantly reduces the floor space required for its installation (Vatis Update, Vol 2, No 21).
