A notice has been issued by the Karnataka High Court to the ministry of environment and forests (MEF) on a contempt petition filed by Janajagriti Samiti, an environment support group. The Samiti has alleged that the MEF violated the court order by not taking into consideration the report of Danish funding agency danida and National Environmental and Engineering Research Institute on the proposed 1,000 megawatt thermal power plant of the Mangalore Power Company Project. The report had asked the MEFto study whether the action taken by the company will affect the quality of human life and environment in a significant manner. The complainants argued that the experts advising the MEF on matters relating to thermal power plants have not been informed of the order.
