Improved chulhas (stoves) named Anganbandhu and Anganmitra, with power ratings of 1.0 and 1.4 kw and a thermal efficiency of 40 per cent have been designed by the Central Fuel Research Institute (cfri), Dhanbad, Bihar. The state Mineral Area Development Authority will help in popularising the chulhas whose pollution levels are lower than conventional chulhas. The chulhas have recently been distributed to about 100 expected users in eight blocks of Dhanbad district for feedback on their design and performance. Plans are also afoot at cfri to develop community coke chulhas .
