Around 300 million children worldwide have been affected due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. All schools in Italy have been shut down, whereas there have been warnings to do the same in the United States.
30 affected in India
The number of people affected with COVID-19 reached 30 on March 5, 2020, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The latest case is of an Indian national who had travelled to Iran, one of the worst-affected countries.
US death toll hits 11
California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti declared states of emergency and announced six additional cases of COVID-19. A cruise ship has also been held off the California coast. The total number of deaths due to the virus in the United States reached 11 on March 4, 2020.
Infections on Princess Cruise ship
Thousands of people on Princess Cruises’ Grand Princess may have been exposed to COVID-19 after sailing along with 62 passengers who company officials said, had previously been on a voyage with a man who eventually died from the virus.
Baby girl in Adelaide tests positive
In Australia, a baby girl in Adelaide as well as a tourist in the Northern Territory were among the 53 cases of coronavirus in the country. Sixty-one staff at Sydney’s Ryde Hospital have also been placed in self-isolation.
16-year-old Indian in Dubai positive
An Indian student in Dubai has tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total number of cases in the United Arab Emirates to 27.
Modi's Brussels visit deferred
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cancelled his visit to Belgium — slated for next week — in view of the worldwide outbreak of Coronavirus.
