Coronavirus update: Centre identifies 170 hotspots across India

The Union Ministry for health and Family Welfare April 15, 2020 released a list of 170 hotspots affected by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in India.

  • Among them, 123 have been identified as ‘hotspot districts with large outbreaks’ and 47 as ‘hotspots districts with clusters’.
  • The Union home ministry April 15, 2020 released a set of guidelines to contain the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his April 14 address to the nation. 
  • Some industries will be able to function conditionally in rural India from April 20.
  • The global tally of cases positive to the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was at 2,000,065, according to aggregator Worldometers.info.
  • The death toll was at 126,760. 
  • About 4 per cent of the patients remained serious or critical.
  • United States remained the worst-affected, with more than 0.6 million cases and more than 26,000 deaths.
  • Belgium and Russia have seen mroe than 2,400 and 3,000 new cases in a day.
  • A doctor has died of the novel coronavirus disease in Meghalaya, the northeastern state's first death in the outbreak, Press Trust of India reported quoting Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
  • United States President Donald Trump stopped his country’s contribution to the World Health Organization, news agency Reuters reported. 
  • The International Monetary Fund predicted the world economy to shrink 3 per cent in 2020.
  • India had 11,439 cases positive to the novel coronavirus and 377 deaths, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported (as of 8 am, April 15, 2020)

  • The number was 10,363, 24 hours ago.
  • Among them, 9,756 were active cases — currently under infection.
  • Since the detection of the first case late January in Kerala, 1,305 patients have been cured / discharged.
  • Maharashtra’s case count jumped to 2,687 from 2,334 a day ago. 
  • The state has recorded 178 deaths in the COVID-19 outbreak.
  •  Delhi’s case count climbed to 1,561, causing 30 deaths.
  • Tamil Nadu now has 1,204 cases.
  • Madhya Pradesh’s death toll reached 50.
  • The Centre is yet to release its guidelines, as annoiunced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while extending the lockdown on April 14. 
  • Thousands of migrant workers thronged the Bandra railway station in Mumbai April 14, demanding to be transported back home.
