Coronavirus update: Single-day death toll crossed 350 yesterday

Global 1-day toll crosses 5,000 again

Delhi recorded the highest number of cases (1,877) and deaths (65) in 24 hours due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to its June 11, 2020 health bulletin. 

  • The local civic body claimed the city’s death toll was at 2,098 cases against the state government’s claim of a little more than 900 deaths. 
     
  • The Indian Council of Medical Research released the first tranche of findings of its sero survey, done to test the presence of antibodies. The findings indicated evicence evidence of exposure in 0.73 per cent people — in whom the IgG antibodies were found. A person develops antibodies after being infection by the virus once and recovering from it.
  • The findings indicated a large population remained susceptible to the infection, ICMR Director-General Balrama Bhargava said. ICMR has not released any pre-print or peer-reviewd paper on the findings.
  • According to the findings, out of 736 districts, 233 had zero cases, 229 had low incidents, 84 had medium incidents and 190 with high incidents of infection.
  • Urban areas were more at (1.09 times rural areas); urban slums were even riskier (1.89 times).
  • Bhargava again denied that there was community transmission in India.
  • The second part of the survey was underway in containment zones, he said. 
  • India lost 357 people to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) June 10, 2020, according to the Union health ministry.

 

  • Worldover, 419,041 people have died of COVID-19, according to private aggregator Worldometers.info.
