Uttar Pradesh recorded its first death due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. News channel NDTV reported April 1, 2020 that a 25-year-old man from Basti district, who died on March 30, was carrying the virus (SARS-C0V-2). Authorities are worried he may have infected others in a hospital he was admitted in.
- The world now has nearly 0.86 million cases positive to the novel coronavirus, according to aggregator Worldometer on April 1, 2020.
- Among them, 0.64 million were active cases.
- The proportion od serious or critical cases among the active cases was 5 per cent.
- The death toll was above 42,000.
- The Indian Council of Medical Research on March 31 said three quasi-subspecies of the virus were circulating in the country.
- India had 1,397 positive cases, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said March 31 (as of 8:30 pm).
- Of them, 124 have been cured or discharged.
- There have been 35 deaths due to the disease from the virus (COVID-19) so far.
- Maharashtra reportedly recorded a record new 72 cases, taking its tally to over 300. This has not been reflected in the figure above. So, chances are India's tally is already above 500.
- Unofficially, the tally is already above 1,600 — according to crowd-courced Covid19india.org.
- Kerala followed Maharashtra on the list, with 241 cases.
- The southern state’s death toll has remained at 2 though while Maharashtra has recorded 11 deaths.
- Telangana has recorded 8 deaths.
- There has been a spurt of cases in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in the last two days, taking both above the 100-mark.
- Delhi and Karnataka have more than 100 cases too while Rajasthan and Telangana are nearing there.
