A company's intention to drill for oil near Costa Rica's Caribbean coast has caused concern among the environmentalists. They allege that the activities of Houston-based Harken Energy would destroy the area that is a crucial nesting ground for endangered sea turtles. "Harken is misleading Costa Ricans about the financial benefits of its project," alleges Rodrigo Alberto Carazo, spokesperson for adela , a coalition of community and environmental groups. According to Jacob Scherr, director of the Natural Resource Defence Council, the plan is an extension of the Bush administration's policy of uncontrolled drilling that would harm the environment irreversibly.
