The proposed fishing jetty at Alagankuppam village, Marakanam taluk of Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu, will not affect the nesting of Olive Ridley turtles, stated a report filed by the chief wildlife warden, Tamil Nadu.
The National Green Tribunal, March 4, 2022, directed a joint committee to determine whether the proposed fishing jetty impacts the Olive Ridley turtle nesting and Kaluveli bird sanctuary.
In their report, the joint committee stated that they had not seen any Olive Ridley turtle nesting sites in the proposed site during the site visits. However, some old nesting sites exist in the sand dunes outside the proposed site, the report added.
The proposed fishing jetty is located on the southern bank of the creek and it does not hamper the movement of the Olive Ridley turtles.But, the proposed artificial digging trench and retaining wall are located in the nesting sites, said the report.
The Karnataka High Court upheld the ban on firecracker business in the congested areas of Bengaluru.
No citizen can claim an unrestricted fundamental right under Article 19(1) (g) of the Constitution to carry on trade and business of explosives, stated the court.
The order was in response to a writ petition filed by some traders engaged in the business of crackers and fireworks items.
The petitioners approached the court against an order issued by the director general and inspector of police, Bengaluru.
An order, issued by the city police inspector in 2013, prohibited those in the business of crackers and firework items from carrying on their business in the congested areas of Bengaluru city.
Unrestricted firecracker business in the area will expose the public to enormous hazards, the court added.
