Dumpsite remediation

The National Green Tribunal directed Coimbatore’s district and local authorities to look into the management of a dumpsite in the city.

The tribunal was responding to a petition October 17, 2022.

The petitioner alleged that the dumpsite has not been remediated and the earlier orders from various courts have been disregarded.

Core processes for granting environment clearance for the expansion of coal mining projects have been diluted, the petitioner stated.

The memorandums issued by the ministry had relaxed the criteria of public hearings for expansion projects, the petitioner alleged.

The NGT has directed the district magistrate of Kanpur to regulate the wastewater discharge into the Ganga. The NGT was responding to an application October 17.

Baikunth Ashram at Luv Kush Nagar has been discharging water into the river, the petitioner alleged. The magistrate should also regulate the illegal constructions on the flood plains of the river, the tribunal added.

Brick kilns

The NGT directed the district magistrate of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh to look into the complaint filed by Dilshad Hussain. The applicant pointed out the illegal operation of a brickfield in Angnakol village.

The brick kiln falls within the prohibited area as it is close to a school, the applicant said.
