Now, even babies are being exposed to the cancer-causing dioxin
According to research commissioned by the European Union (EU), infants are being exposed to dioxin -- known to be carcinogenic -- through their mother's milk at levels that are more than 144 times higher than the safe daily limit.
The study found that adults are also exposed to the compound at levels well above those advised by the World Health Organization.
The EU has proposed maximum limits of dioxins in foodstuffs and animal feed in the wake of the food scare this summer, when Belgium admitted that high levels of the compound had entered the foodchain through contaminated animal feed.
