Plastic pollution in Malegaon

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on January 21, 2020 called for stringent action against industries involved in melting plastic for manufacturing recycled plastic granules in Malegaon, Maharashtra. The units engaged in plastic-related activities continued to operate despite being served closure notices, a report filed by the Central Pollution Control Board said.

Kosathalaiyar river pollution

The NGT on January 21 directed the constitution of a committee consisting of the district collectors of Thiruvallur and Chittoor as well as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh State Pollution Control Boards to have a joint inspection of Tiruthani in Thiruvallur, where 1,000 litres of expired milk packets were allegedly dumped in the Kosathalaiyar river.

Pollution of Bhedwad Khadi

The NGT on January 21 directed the Gujarat Pollution Control Board to look into polluting industries like Jaytex Silk Mills operating in Bhestan, Surat and discharging untreated coloured chemical liquid into the Bhedwad Khadi that finally falls into the Arabian Sea. The industries are also emitting toxic smoke.

EC sought for fire clay quarry

The NGT on January 22 directed the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority to submit a report on the environmental clearance certificate sought by applicant C Sivakumar for a fire clay quarry situated on his patta lands in Karai (East) village of Tamil Nadu's Perambalur district.
