Ashwani Khud pollution

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on October 10, 2019 called the reports filed by the Shimla Municipal Corporation and the Municipal Council, Solan, which listed steps to be taken to remove plastic from the Aswani Khud river, as 'unsatisfactory'.

The NGT said the reports did not specify where the plastic collected was taken and what was done with it. It directed a revised report to be submitted  within a period of one month.

The Ashwani Khud river had been found to be full of plastic due to accumulation of solid waste in the drains joining the river.

Vapi pollution

The NGT on October 10, 2019 directed the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) to maintain regular vigil in the area of Vapi where the groundwater had been found to be contaminated by M/s Parshanik Chemicals, GIDS.

The court had taken up the matter in continuation of earlier NGT orders for remedial action. The Central Pollution Control Board and the GPCB had submitted reports that remedial actions were taken to control the pollution.
