come year 2000 and environmentally sensitive bus-stops will be a reality in Delhi. "During my trips to Europe and East Asia, I was amazed at the facilities being extended to bus commuters. On the other hand, the commuters in this city are continuing with the old iron relics," said transport minister Parvez Hashmi. These new bus-stops will house a telephone booth for local and std calls and kiosks for snacks and coffee.

For the bus-stop neon sign advertisements, polluting gensets will be replaced by solar-powered photo-voltaic cells. These cells are devices that convert sunlight into electricity, by-passing thermodynamic cycles and mechanical generators. Of late, numerous bus-stops in the city were using diesel gensets for advertising at junctions already heavily polluted.
