Feeling the groove

Stanton Magnetics of Plantview, New York, USA, wants the DJs to "feel" the music they play. The company has devised a system that lets someone listen to one sound source through headphones, while feeling vibrations of another. So now, a DJ can cue up music on two turntables simultaneously. The same technology could help profoundly deaf people listen to music, watch a movie and even play a video game. The system feeds the sound to a transducer mounted on a band that clamps over the shoulder and presses the sternum. The transducer vibrates and causes sympathetic vibrations inside the wearer's rib cage.
