5 Japanese companies are
close to developing a filrsmart enough to do a
zoom's job (New SciennVol 143, No 1941).

The system gives a tographer the option of 11 pseudo-zooming" by recording on the film a longer focal length than of the lens used. Durinc processing, the printer automatically enlarge the central part of the image The only disadvantage that enlarging the print makes the image more grainy.
