friends of the Earth (foe) an international non-governmental organisation, is demanding that uk should ban the use of chlorpyrifos, the world's most commonly used insecticide. This demand was made in the wake of the recommendations made by the Advisory Committee on Pesticides ( acp ). According to the committee, the use of chlorpyrifos in garden products should be abolished.

"The Government must follow acp's advice. To ensure that children's health is not being put at risk due to this pesticide, they should go further and ban its use in agriculture too," said Sandra Bell, f o e's food campaigner.

The Pesticides Safety Directorate has also been urged to bring the committee's views to the attention of other European Union ( eu ) member states, as part of the current eu review of plant protection products containing chlorpyrifos. According to the Committee at present there are no evidences about short term or acute exposures to chlorpyrifos in the uk . The ministry of agriculture is currently considering the recommendations of acp .
