A consortium of4 NGOs has set up this Himalayan kingdom's first community radio - 'Radio Everest' - to spread messages related to development, environmental protection and cultural harmony. If the experiment turns out to be a success, the consortium hopes to support similar NGOs in rural area& to set up radio stations in their own communities. However, the project has not found much support from the country's labyrinthine bureaucracy, which is afraid of losing its traditional control over th@ electronic media. (IPS)
