The PM-KISAN Scheme has been successfully implemented across the country the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar stated in Parliament on March 18, 2020. 

As on March 11, financial benefit under the scheme has been released to 8,69,79,391 beneficiaries. However, these exclude about 69 lakh farmers of West Bengal as the state government has not yet decided to join the scheme, Tomar added.

The responsibility of identification of eligible beneficiary farmer families and uploading their correct details on the PM-KISAN portal rested with the concerned state / Union territory governments, he said.

Ujjwala LPG connections

Oil marketing companies released eight crore LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan told the Rajya Sabha.

Of these, 88.62 lakh connections were released to West Bengal, followed by Bihar, where 85.49 connections were released.

Industrial disaster deaths

A total of 5,950 fatal and non-fatal injuries were recorded in registered factories across the country in 2017, according to data presented by the Union Ministry of Labour and Unemployment in the Rajya Sabha. Of this, 1,084 were fatal and Gujarat recorded the most, with 229 deaths, followed by Maharashtra with 137.

Suicides due to unemployment

There has been a 14 per cent increase in suicides due to unemployment between 2017 and 2018, according to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

To address the issue of suicide, the Government of India is implementing the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) and supporting implementation of the District Mental Health Programme under NMHP in various districts of the country

MPLADS funds

There is no proposal under consideration of the government to increase the Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds at present, according to the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

The Members of Legislative Assembly Local Area Development (MLA LAD) funds are under the domain of state / Union territory governments and may vary across states.

The ministry said this in response to the question on whether the government proposed to enhance the funds under MPLAD Scheme, which are currently Rs 5 crore and was lower compared to MLA LAD funds of Rs 10 crore.
