Making waves Ecology UK

The world's first broadband channel dedicated to environmental issues is now on air and is also available online.

Developed with support from the United Nations Environment Programme, Green. tv is an innovative project: a "one-stop shop", with a searchable database of programmes made by ngo s, community filmmakers, public and commercial organisations.

The main areas covered on the channel will be air, land, water, climate change, people, species and technologies. It is the brainchild of environmental film director/producer Ade Thomas.

The online version of the channel, available at www.green.tv, includes a chat room and a search facility. Thomas compared this to a green video Google that lets you find specific watch programmes on specific environmental issues on demand.

The channel will show films produced by environmental organisations like Friends of the Earth and Water Aid. It will also telecast programmes made by private companies with a credible interest in working towards protecting the environment.
