The World Health Organization (WHO) Commission on Macroeconomics and Health (CMH) was launched in January 2000 by WHO director-general Gro Harlem Brundtland. The CMH has been analysing the impact of health on development issues and producing reports and studies on health-related interventions and their influence on economic growth and equity in developing nations.
The CMH is divided into six Working Groups, all of which are reflected on the website. They are: Health, economic growth, and poverty reduction, Global public goods for health, Mobilization of domestic resources for health, Health and the international economy, Improving health outcomes of the poor and Development assistance and health.
The website has recently launched an electronic newsletter MacroHealth, for the latest information on how efforts to increase health investments and improve health expenditure effectiveness are shaping up. The newsletter will contain Macroeconomics and Health Support Secretariat news and new data on economic growth and health investment. The newsletter is a follow-up to the commission's report, "Macroeconomics and Health: Investing in Health for Economic Development", which is already available online. CMH plans to develop a separate website for MacroHealth soon.
