the Ministry of Non-conventional Energy sources (mnes) and the scientists of Benaras Hindu University (bhu) have successfully tested two hydrogen-powered motorcycles. This has opened new doors for India to enter the global market of hydrogen motorcycles.
Says S K Chopra, senior adviser at the ministry, "The hydrogen-driven vehicles are environment-friendly, having zero emission." The mnes is hoping to tie up with an Indian or foreign vehicle manufacturer to upgrade and market the hydrogen vehicles within and outside India. Chopra reportedly said that commercial application of the motorbikes would be ready after their techno-economic feasibility is established. mnes has held talks with some firms regarding commercial bike manufacture. A meeting with Japan, the us , Germany and France is also scheduled.
