Nandigram On March 18, 2007, the Calcutta High Court again adjourned the much-awaited hearing of the Nandigram case (see 'Nandigram carnage', Down To Earth, April 15, 2007). The court was to hear the CBI's report on the police firing in Nandigram. The chief justice will now hear the case on April 26.


Salmon-win A US Circuit Court of Appeals has decided in favour of salmons, which are threatened because of four dams in the Columbia-Snake river basin. The court directed the government to look at options, including removing the dams. The government had earlier ignored concerns by conservationists.
