THE government of India has awarded the first ever industrial growth
centr& in Assam to the district of
Sonitpur. An amount of Rs 50 lakh has
recently been sanctioned by the Union
ministry of industry, out of which there
will be a total capital outlay of Rs 30
crore for the entire peoject to be developed and completed during the Ninth
Five Year plan at the Balipara development block in the district.
Iswar Prasanna Hazarika, member
of Parliament, announced that already
1,500 bighas (bigha is a measurement of
land varying locally from 1/8 to 2/5 of a
hectare) of land have been handed over
to the state for the industrial growth
centre.,According to Hazarika, the proposed Lntr@e would greatly benefit and
brighte4,the prospect of industrialisation in this backward region on the
north bank of the Brahmaputra.
The centre would have all kinds of
provisions required to set up various
small and medium industries in the
complex, besides arranging for provisions to assist in the preparation of
investment and project proposals, infrastructural facilities and the like needed
by the units.
