Africa is being targeted by multinational corporations desperate for a market to sell genetically-engineered products which have been registered elsewhere. Liz Hosken of the uk- based environmental group Gaia Foundation said Africa is a 'soft spot' as people are not yet aware of the dangers posed by genetically-engineered products. She was speaking at the Euro-African Green conference in Nairobi.
Hosken warned African nations against the new breed of seeds being developed by the multi-national corporation's with the help of us and Japanese governments. The seed, which is produced through the so-called terminator gene technology, can be planted only once, and the second generation seed cannot germinate, informed Hosken.
