imageAn environmental documentary is under attack from a leading American environmentalist who was interviewed for the programme, as well as a coalition of anti- GM campaigners based in the developing world.

Adam Werbach, a sustainability consultant in California and former president of the Sierra Club conservation group, told Guardian that makers of What the Green Movement Got Wrong did not inform him about the programme’s polemical nature when they first approached him.

Channel 4, which aired the film, described it as one in which “life-long diehard greens advocate radical solutions to climate change, which include GM crops and nuclear energy”. But Werbach said the film misrepresents who is to blame for social and environmental problems. Blaming environmentalists for starvation and lack of energy (in developing nations) is like blaming weathermen for the weather. “Nuclear power and GM foods are portrayed as hallmark issues of New Environmentalists. But these have never been issues for me.”
