Students' Initiative Tamil Nadu

The Institute of Community Medicine, Madras Medical College, Chennai is amongst India's oldest medical institutes. Though funded by the Tamil Nadu government, the institution hitherto lacked professional help to develop its website, www.icm.tn.gov.in. Now, the institute's post-graduate students update it and compile news for e-newsletters and e-digests.

The site has a drug formulary with details of drugs for various conditions. "We do not promote self-medication. The site only provides information," says N Ashok, the house surgeon instrumental in running the site. "We plan to take specific diseases, such as diabetes, and list methods to help people manage them," says another house surgeon P Prashitha. "We will explain complications and how to identify chronic or acute problems," she adds.
