Orwell Rolls in his Grave directed by Robert Kane Pappas 2003 usa
Could a media system, controlled by a few global corporations with the ability to overwhelm all competing voices, be able to turn lies into truths?" So asks this new documentary, which incisively dissects the subject the media doesn't like to talk about: itself. Incorporating interviews with leading media watchdogs, from Michael Moore to Tony Benn, Pappas scrutinises the usual tired suspects: Fox News, Rupert Murdoch and George W Bush. Problematically he replicates much of the footage and issues central to Farenheit 9/11, without shedding new light on them. Despite these faults and the title's jaded Orwellian reference, Pappas' critique of mass corporate media is essential viewing in an age when the integrity of the information we read, watch and hear is increasingly compromised by censorship and the conglomerates that transmit it.
