Mumbai gears up for green survey

Published: Sunday 30 September 2007

the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (bmc) recently invited expressions of interest from agencies to conduct a survey of greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions across various sectors in the city. "Currently, there is no collected data. When we have a baseline survey ready, it can be used for drawing future environmental policies and projects," said R A Rajeev, additional municipal commissioner. The survey will cover transport, construction, industrial, service, agricultural, energy, healthcare, commercial, waste, household and civic amenities sectors. Estimates of ghgs emitted per day will also be recorded. The agency to carry out the survey will be chosen by October, depending on their experience in conducting similar surveys.
