New gas pipeline for China, Asia Pacific

Published: Wednesday 15 August 2007

Russia's natural-gas exporter oao Gazprom has announced to build a gas pipeline parallel to the Eastern Siberian oil link, which will lower the cost of supplying fuel to China and the Asia Pacific. It will use oil fields in the Yakutia Republic for supplying the oil. This was done keeping in mind China's increasing demand for energy due to faster economic growth.

Gazprom also said it would cooperate in the peace pipeline--the proposed oil pipeline running from Iran through Pakistan to India. Pakistan has welcomed Gazprom's participation.
