>> Gambia, on January 13, ransacked and ordered closure of Teranga FM in the country’s capital, Banjul.

According to the international non-profit, Reporters Without Borders, no reasons were given for shutting down the only community radio station in the country. Teranga runs on funds collected from people of Banjul.

>> The Chinese government demolished artist Ai Weiwei’s Shanghai studio. The move, he says, is linked to his political activism. Ai had permission to build the studio, but later officials ordered the demolition as he had failed to follow planning procedures. Ai has been a critic of the Chinese government, especially on its environmental policies.
