>> Swimmers at risk of shark attacks in Australia will have an electronic saviour.
Parts of the seabed along Adelaide’s coasts will be fitted with electronic receivers that will allow lifesavers to warn swimmers of approaching sharks.
Researchers at Flinders University will surgically insert transmitters into bronze whalers and other sharks that will signal the receivers and send text messages to lifesavers. The sharks will have to swim within 800 metres of the transmitter to trigger the text message, said ecologist Charlie Huveneers.
