>> Oil giant BP has given top priority to now-famous oil-water separating machines developed by Kevin Costner’s company, out of some 123,000 other devices in its public call for solutions, even though they failed twice in field tests.
Why? Because Costner is famous, their source says. “He was telegenic, and there were enormous amounts of money being spent,” a government analyst told a newspaper. During BP’s Gulf of Mexico oil leak disaster, the machines received positive media coverage.
>> San Francisco is the greenest city in North America, followed by Vancouver and New York, says a recent survey. The survey looked at 31 indicators, ranging from consumption of water and electricity to efficiency standards. Detroit was the least green of 27 cities ranked.
