>> YouTube has launched a school- friendly version of its site. YouTube For Schools promises classrooms access to educational videos without the risk of pupils being “distracted by the latest music video”.

The Google-owned site has put together playlists according to subject matter and intended age level. The new service allows schools to turn on a network setting that means pupils can access only content from YouTube EDU—the site’s section for education videos.

>> Google Inc has abandoned an ambitious project to make renewable energy cheaper than coal. The change in plan is because some investors have groused about rising spending at the world’s No.1 Internet search company. It is facing competition in mobile computing and social networking from Apple Inc and Facebook.
