www.solutionexchange-un.net.in

keep Your fingers crossed

The recent UN Human development report ranked India 127th in terms of its human development indicators. One doesn't know if this poor performance prompted the UN's India Country Team to come with this interactive website. But education, nutritional security, gender, health and employment are some of the key concerns of www.solutionexchange-un.net.in. The site offers development practitioners a UN-sponsored space where they can interact and benefit from each other's solutions to development-related problems.

Besides direct consultation between development practitioners, the website also offers expert advice on issues such as HIV-AIDS, decentralisation, education, nutrition and food security. And then, how can an UN-sponsored site not make a mention of the millennium development goals (MDGs). So, www.solutionexchange-un.net.in links together organisations and experts who work on water and sanitation -- a key MDG.

E-consultation could be a good way to bring together development practitioners in different parts of the country. But then it might also degenerate into another avenue of effete networking. Moreover, the portal would have been much more potent if its medium of interaction had been Indian languages other than English.

But let's give www.solutionexchange-un.net.in the benefit of our doubts. After all, its early days for the site.
