ORDERED TO BE CHALANGED

The West Bengal government has decided to challenge a high court order doing away with transit permits for inter-state rice export, said Kalimuddin Shams, state food and civil supply minister. He said rice mill owners were taking advantage of the high court order to export rice to other states and outside the country, depriving the state of levy rice. Shams said legal action will be taken against erring rice mill owners as the rice procurement in the state stood at less than two lakh tonnes against the targeted five lakh tonnes.
