Who would have thought that migraines can be inherited? Sad, but true, shows a study conducted by researchers from the Los Angeles-based University of California. The researchers studied 50 Finnish families whose multigenerational members suffer from the disorder known as migraine with typical aura (MA). The researchers found three common genetic markers linked to a region on chromosome 4 in 30 per cent of the study participants. Experts opine that the finding may help researchers isolate the gene that predisposes people to migraines and engineer more effective treatments (www.newswise.com , February 28, 2002).
