Rainfall pattern changed considerably
The average annual rainfall has declined in 68 per cent of India. For the study, researchers divided the country into 15 different geographic regions. Recent trends in these regions follow
Western Himalayas
- Overall decrease between 1961 and 2006
- Increase in winter rainfall, summer rainfall
- Decrease in monsoon, post monsoon
Northern plains
- Overall decrease between 1999 and 2006
- Increase between 1944 and 1998
- Increase in winter rainfall, summer rainfall
- Decrease in monsoon

Eastern plains
- Overall increase between 1967 and 2006
- Decrease in winter rainfall

Indo-Gangetic plains
