Recently, owing to contamination from the textile dye waste generated by factories that are situated along the Kelani river, the water supply to the city of Colombo got seriously disrupted. According to reports, there are several such factories along the river's banks which have been discharging toxic chemicals in absence of proper affluent controlling device installed in them. The poisonous elements found in the water are toxic even in a measure of parts per million.
