Projects galore

the India-Canada Environment Facility has approved Rs 17.58 crore for two environment projects in India. In the first project, the icef has approved a grant of Rs 3.20 crore to the World Wide Fund for Nature-India (wwf - India) for implementation of project titled "Education and Capacity Building for Promoting Nature Conservation and Environmental Protection" in Maharasthra, Goa, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh.

The second grant of Rs 14.38 crore has been sanctioned to Loktat Development Authority, government of Manipur and Wetlands International - South Asia, for implementation of Sustainable Development and Water Resources Management of Loktat Lake Project, Manipur and catchement area.

The purpose is to build capacity within the Loktat Development Authority, other concerned institutions and local communities.The ultimate purpose, however, is to provide livelihood security to the local communities while ensuring conservation of the lake.
