In Australia, mobile phone radiation levels will be displayed on their packaging in response to growing concerns about the health effects of mobile phone use. The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) has announced this move with the backing of the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association. Ian Maclean, ACA's radiation manager says that both the authority and the industry were aware of the public's concerns about radiation from mobile phones. "This initiative should improve community confidence in the safety of mobiles because it will enable consumers to be better informed before they buy a phone," he said. ACA's executive director Peter Russell said the move should help allay community concern about mobile phone emissions. He said all available scientific evidence offered no concerns about mobile phone use ( The Age , August 3, 2000).
