-- THE environment crisis which is threatening to engulf us has forced the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) to do a rethink on how to save the natural resources. In a recent two-day meeting at Kuala Lumpur, officials of the ASEAN working group on environmental economics decided to develop an environmental and natural resources accounting manual and adopt state- of-the-art instruments for pollution control.

Funding for the two projects is expected to come from the Canadian governme@t under the economic and environment programme for South-East Asia. ISO 14000, the international standard for environmental management will be advocated with greater thrust, especially in small and medium industries, in order to keep pace. with developments in industrialised nations.
