The Delhi government has been ordered by the city high court to shift all storehouses of highly inflammable chemicals from the Old Delhi area to Ghazipur. The government has to complete the task within four months. The court also directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to conduct a survey to find out whether any hazardous chemical was being stored in the market and residen-tial areas in violation of the existing laws. The decision was given in response to a public interest litigation, filed in the wake of the May 1999 Lal Kuan fire.
