Short on gas: Bangladesh is facing a daily gas shortage of 7 million cubic metre (MCM) due to a cold spell and ongoing power crisis. The country’s industrial units depend on gas supply to produce their own electricity. The holidays in industrial areas have been staggered over the weekdays to manage supplies. Bangladesh’s gas demand is 62 MCM a day; it gets 55 MCM gas.

Pakistan misses wheat target: Pakistan’s wheat yield may reduce by two million tonnes, missing its target of 25 million tonnes this year following drought-like conditions in December and January. The meteorological department blamed the scanty winter rain on El-Nino weather conditions over the Pacific ocean, expected to last till the coming summer.
