A drop of blood, a drop of reagent, a glass slide and 10 seconds is all one needs to detect AIDS. This single step AIDS test has been developed by Delhi University-based bio-chemists helped by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical " Education and Research, Chandigarh (PTI Science Service, October 1-15,1995). In comparison, the current HIV test -ELISA -is exensive . In the Delhi University test, IfIV"1 infected blood 'curdles' on adding the reagent. But the reagent cannot detect HIV -2. The researchers hope to find a solution to the problem by mid '96.
