Swift scaler

Published: Thursday 31 August 1995

In a bid to ease workload on rural wometi in coastal areas, a simple yet effective fish scaler has been developed under a Food and Agriculture Organization project (IRED-Forum, No 53).

The scaler comprises of meticu- lously eleaned jagged-edged bottle tops nailed to a square, wooden bat in a way to allow their free rotation. This*s(*er is moved firmly yet carefully, from the tail to the head of the fish. The new tool accelerates the scaling process considerably besides being less damaging to the fish skin. The tool can also be used to remove small feathers from poultry.
